Since this summer, Monte Sano has undergone the Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence evaluation. In November we found out that we had become a Lighthouse School. My principal, three other teachers, and I went to Walt Disney World to accept the award, and attend the National Blue Ribbon Conference. I am so proud of our sweet little school, and all of the neat things happening on the mountain.
My friend Heather, who is the ETA at Goldsmith-Schiffman, and I presented during the conference on Coding in the Elementary Curriculum. What an honor! I love getting teachers excited about computer science in their classrooms.
While we were there, we got to talk to Dr. Rich Melheim. He presented on getting students actively participating in the learning process, and was fantastic. He has started a new research project in India that I might be helping with. I can't wait to share more details about that later. :)
Of course we had to have some fun while we were there too! Disney is one of my favorite places on earth, and we had so much fun learning and dreaming of possibilities for our school. Several schools from Huntsville City received awards. I am so thankful to work for a school system that strives to give students the best possible education, and empowers teachers at the same time.
In December, my students and their parents participated in the Hour of Code. Our ETA program is still new, and the Hour of Code event was a great way to get students to showcase what they have been learning, and to teach their parents a few things.
I teach ETA for HCS. I am passionate about game-based learning and coding. Long story short, I'm a tech geek! :)
